Fasching ball on 4 March at the 5-star SPA-HOTEL Jagdhof
Comic heroes celebrate Fasching at the Jagdhof
For many years, the Fasching ball at the 5- star SPA-HOTEL Jagdhof has been one of Carnival’s highlights. Each year, the Matschgerer convene at the hotel to drive out winter and party one more time before the start of Lent. This year’s Fasching ball for locals, visitors and guests on Shrove Monday at the Jagdhof has Comics as its theme, and we’re really looking forward to meeting all our childhood heroes in the flesh!
Donald Duck, Spiderman, Hello Kitty, Tintin and Snowy? The only limit is your imagination! We can’t wait to see all the comic book characters! Naturally, all our heroes will be wining and dining like royalty during the ball. We start the evening at 7pm with a cocktail reception before dancing to the Alpengeister’s music all evening long. The bar will also be serving appropriately celebratory drinks and at midnight we fortify ourselves with a delicious chili con carne.
Wearing fancy dress during Carnival originated in the Middle Ages when people would dress up in strange disguises to drive out evil spirits and the winter darkness. Masquerading gave them a sense of safety, so the common people were emboldened to reverse social roles and suspend norms of behaviour during this period preceding Lent. Since carnival didn’t last long the authorities let the people do as they liked and even accepted that a Carnival prince and princess would take over for a little while. The ritual of disguise offered an uncomplicated opportunity to slip into different roles – and don’t we all want to do that from time to time?
‘We don’t need wealth,
We don’t need money!
We celebrate Carnival
And the taste of honey!’
