#Enjoy an adventure for your taste buds: hot-hat dining fun in the Jagdhof’s Stadel barn

Share the cooking and the eating – and eat ‘like a Tatar’!

The ‘hot hat’ or Tatarenhut is a cross between a Chinese hotpot and a tabletop grill and derives its name from its shape which is similar to a ‘Tatar’s hat’. The device is heated with charcoal and its ‘brim’ filled with broth, which means that all the goodness from the food being barbecued on the steel cone above it drips into the broth, making it lusher and tastier as the evening wears on. Served in the Jagdhof’s Stadel barn, this is a culinary experience both rustic and elegant.

A convivial night

We welcome you at reception with a glass of mulled wine, non-alcoholic punch or – in summer – with an Alpine aperitif before accompanying you to the barn in the Jagdhof’s garden. Our Stadel barn host will explain how it all works before the convivial meal begins. In addition to home-made salad, we serve a selection of vegetables for you to cook on the ‘hot hat’. Simply place the vegetables and meat slices on the cone’s steel tips and wait. The ‘brim’ is filled with a fresh broth that you can use to baste the meat or simply enjoy as part of the meal after it has been enriched by all the lovely cooking juices. We serve a variety of meats for you to cook at your table as well as sauces, crouton sticks, garlic bread and a delicious soup to complete the unique convivial cookery experience.

  • Onward to our rustic barn – it’s only in the garden, so no need for hiking boots!

  • The meal starts with a hearty Stadel platter of cold delights supplied by our favourite butcher and the Stubai dairy. A soup of the day is also available – either in addition to or instead of the cold platter.

  • Time to share the ‘hot hat’!

  • Dessert of the day or baked Camembert served with cranberries and croutons for dipping – hot cheese option only available for 2 or more
