Stubai Glacier Ski Opening

At 2,600m above sea level, we now have more than 300,000cbm of water available for snowmaking machines. In recent years, the new reservoir, which includes a pumping station, feed pipes and two pressure booster stations, has experienced phased expansion in a way that is as nature-friendly as possible. The result is a facility that beautifully blends into the landscape. 70 hectares of slopes can be covered with snow when the temperature drops to between -2 and -2.5°C.

Opened in 1973, the Stubai Glacier is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year. What began with three lifts, today offers 26 cable cars and lifts to take winter sports fans up to 3,210m altitude and to 35 ski slopes. Thanks to the altitude, modern and resource-saving snowmaking systems, gastronomic and family facilities, and the Stubai Zoo snow park, the Stubai Glacier one of the Alpine region’s top ski areas.

The relaxed travel option for the Stubai Glacier’s 50th anniversary ski opening is to go by train. Board an Austrian Federal Railways Nightjet sleeper to Innsbruck from Amsterdam, Düsseldorf, Hamburg, Graz or Vienna. The Nightjet combination ticket includes your transfer to the SPA-Hotel Jagdhof in Neustift as well as a ski pass for 3 to 6 days.

If you do opt to drive, give your car a few days off too: our free daily hotel shuttle service will take you to the Stubai Glacier and back (at specified times) to your 5-star glacier ski hotel, the SPA-Hotel Jagdhof.

BIG Family slalom and boardercross and the Big Family Fun Slope are perfect for active fun on a variety of slopes. A kindergarten and children’s restaurant look after your little winter-sports enthusiasts when they come off the slopes. Then there’s the Winter Snowpark – a slopestyle course for families and beginners.

Top tip: Children under ten ski for free on the Stubai Glacier.

A special event well worth seeing, and a highlight of the 50th anniversary, is the world’s elite freeskiers meet during the seventh FIS Freeski World Cup Stubai. And, as soon as there’s enough snow, the Stubai Zoo promises lots of snowboarding and freestyle fun. With lines, maximum variety and perfect shape, it’s one of the best snow parks in the world.
